Who & What Is The Australian Organisation For Quality

The Australian Organisation for Quality has been the leading Organisation for Quality Professionals since 1968. It was formed by a group of volunteers to raise business awareness of the benefits of adopting quality practices.

It is a not-for-profit organisation, incorporated in Victoria, with offices in each capital city and major regional centres. The president and councilors are elected by the members annually, and serve in a voluntary capacity.

AOQ is committed to meeting your business quality and management needs. It focuses on assisting individuals and organisations to access leading edge business quality information, and professional development and training.

AOQ - The Business Of Quality & The Quality Of Business

There is a growing and compelling trend to integrate a wide range of business management practices in manufacturing, retailing, service industries, not-for-profit organisations, and government. This especially involves those business practices that relate to occupational health and safety, product and service quality, environment protection, customer service processes, and customer satisfaction.

In these areas, quality may still be viewed by some as carrying the traditional and somewhat limited meaning of “product quality”. However, AOQ believes it must now be extended to cover the quality of the business management practices themselves, whether they are applied to quality or to safety or to the environment, or whatever else. Therefore our membership services and professional development programs are geared towards satisfying the broad range of quality business needs in the most efficient manner possible.
As a simple example, national and international standards and programs for continuous improvement in the key areas of safety, quality and environment, all require auditing as a key component of the management system. Why learn to audit three times over, if the same auditing principles and practices can be used to integrate the approach to continuous improvement in all three areas, and more.
Although AOQ is over 30 years old, it is not standing still on the technology of the past. Continuous improvement in the provision of our services and promotion of good quality now leads us along the path of integrated business quality practices.AOQ Mission/vision/purpose Statement June 2001
